This is another piece made from salvaged objects found at the abandoned estate of a wealthy 20th century family. Winged euonymus, a harmful invasive species that was introduced as an ornamental shrub hundreds of years ago, has created a dense monoculture at the site. It is easy to imagine the dreams of beauty and tranquility that the original owners had when they set out to landscape their estate with exotica plans from far away places. Could they have ever known that upon their departure, their dreams of beauty could have such a profound impact on the place they were dwelling for generations to come? What are our responsibilities to the past, present, and future when we try to create moments of beauty for ourselves?
