Lithops are only available in communities of 1, 3, 5, 7, or other prime numbers. These pieces are meant to have a special, more private interior while the exterior presence evokes an architectural envelope, carapace, or a membrane. When lit, the interior spaces connect with one another, opening an unlikely bridge between one organism to another.
The Lithops pictured here have all settled into comfortable ecosystems in New York, Florida, or California. They all look nice outside, but they aren’t weatherproof so I’d encourage anyone interested to try to raise a community of their own to place them in a south facing room with moderate to strong light. Their ability to network with one another or with other communities of lamps remains mysterious and undocumented, so please exercise caution.
Drop me a line if you want to try to raise some of your own.
