Lithops, 2021 - present
Lithops are meant to be grouped in communities of 1, 3, 5, 7, or other prime numbers. When lit, the interior spaces connect with one another, opening an unlikely bridge between one organism to another. The Lithops pictured here have all settled into comfortable ecosystems in New York, Florida, or California.
These are made from birch plywood using a homemade bandsaw jig for cutting circles, with the other elements carved on the lathe. The color on the interiors comes from light reflected off of colored paint, not from the light source itself. Unlike the other sculptures in this portfolio, I make these in editions.
Drop me a line if you want to try to raise some of your own.
