My box sculptures are inspired by or represent communities, homes, shared and individual spaces. They also consider the relationships and communications connecting these typologies in both the human-built environment and the natural world. Snails grow shells, termites build mounds, mycelial networks spread for miles underground, and from these kinds of activities complex ecosystems and interactions emerge. People build homes, apartment complexes, networked communications infrastructure, and from these activities diverse communities and cities emerge.

Exteriors present like architecture, carapaces, or bodies. The interior is hidden from view as a more private space where I typically add a rich blue pigment and a found object that holds personal significance.

This box is made from stack laminated white oak. The tree itself was standing dead in my back yard, and had to be taken down for fear it would fall and break my neighbor's power lines.
