Spalted Maple is just the best. There’s nothing more satisfying than finding one of these logs at just the right state of decay and knowing that you are in for all kinds of surprises as you cut it up, process it, and turn it into objects. I’ve been practicing orienting these pieces of wood so that I can reveal a hidden landscape pattern in them when they are finished. This one did not disappoint! I see an ocean, mountains, clouds in the sky.
